Analysis

Meta’s October 26 OCP Summit account outlines network work across accelerator racks, training clusters and connections between sites. Its highlights include liquid-cooled racks with 102.4-terabit switch blades and a scale-out design connecting each GPU to eight network planes.

The company also describes its BAG super-spine, Ethernet scale-up work and MetaRoCE transport. A separate Open Switch Platform Architecture initiative, co-led with Microsoft and Alibaba, has submitted a version 1.0 specification to OCP. These are distinct initiatives at different stages, not one newly shipped networking product.

Our reading: faster switches need compatible software, cooling and operations. Public talks and specifications make the designs inspectable, but do not establish that another operator can reproduce Meta’s performance, cost or reliability in a different cluster.
